UNLOCKING YOUR CELL PHONE

Your cell phone must be network unlocked to use My UK SIM Card. Network unlocked is sometimes referred to as "SIM Free". This means you can use any SIM Card from any carrier. Contact your phone provider or click on these handy links to unlock your AT&T phone, T-Mobile phone, Verizon phone or Sprint phone, or contact your phone provider directly to request a network unlock. If you have an iPhone you can read the official Apple website instructions about how to unlock your iPhone.

What does network unlocked mean? Some phones are network locked - this means they're restricted by software so that they can only be used with a single network or carrier. The reason for the lock is because phones are usually heavily subsidized and carriers want to discourage people switching networks or shipping phones to other countries. Getting your phone "network unlocked" means that it can be used with any SIM card/carrier - and in any country.

Your cell phone might already be network unlocked: an easy way to test this is to insert a different network SIM Card in your phone and confirm that it connects to the different network. For example if you have an AT&T phone then insert a T-Mobile SIM Card and check that it connects to the T-Mobile network.

WILL MY CELL PHONE WORK?

Good news! Your cell phone can probably use My UK SIM Card! Woo hoo!

All iPhones can use My UK SIM Card (including iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR and any subsequent newer model iPhones). So if you have any model of iPhone you can use My UK SIM Card. Your iPhone must also be network unlocked.

Most other Smartphones can use My UK SIM Card. Here's some of the more popular Smartphones that can use My UK SIM Card: Samsung Galaxy S10, Samsung Galaxy S9, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Google Pixel 3, OnePlus 6T, Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Honor View 20, LG G7 ThinQ Sprint. These are just some of the many Smartphones that can use My UK SIM Card. To check if your Smartphone can use My UK SIM Card, just use the search feature at the Will My Phone Work website: select "United Kingdom" as the country, then select "3" from the carrier list. And here's the technical bit for the geeks! Your cell phone must work on 4G LTE Band 20 (800MHz) and 4G LTE Band 3 (1800MHz) or 3G Band 1 (2100MHz).

Your cell phone must also be network unlocked to use My UK SIM Card.

  • My UK SIM Card comes with a UK mobile/cell number. You'll know the number before you leave (it's printed on the SIM Card). Here's an example of what a UK mobile/cell number looks like: 07100200300. You can give the number to family and friends, hotels, tour operators, airport transfers, Uber, or anyone else you want.
  • When anyone in the USA or Canada calls or texts you they'll be charged international call or text charges (because they'll be calling or texting the UK). It's free for you to receive calls and texts on your My UK SIM Card. When they call you they'll need to dial 011 then 44 for the UK then your My UK SIM Card number with the first 0 removed. For example if your My UK SIM Card number is 07100200300 then they'll dial 011-44-7100200300. Or to send you a text they'll send it to +447100200300.
  • When anyone in the UK calls or texts you they'll be calling or texting a local UK number so it will just like they're calling or texting a friend or customer. When anyone in Europe calls or texts you they'll be calling or texting a UK number and in many cases that's included in phone plan.
  • Do you want to keep receiving calls and texts on your American or Canadian cell phone? Some of our customers find it important to be able to still receive calls and texts to their American or Canadian cell phone. There's a few things you can do:
  • 1. You could forward your cell phone to your My UK SIM Card number. This will forward voice calls only (not texts) but you can simply take out My UK SIM Card from your phone and put your American or Canadian SIM Card into your phone to retrieve your texts, and then put My UK SIM Card back into your phone.
  • Your American or Canadian cell phone provider will charge you a fee to forward your cell phone to your My UK SIM Card number. You'll need to contact them to find out what it costs.
  • There's no cost from My UK SIM Card to receive these forwarded calls.
  • 2. You could use our "Follow Me Number" service. Here's how it works: we give you a regular American or Canadian number that routes to your My UK SIM Card number and you forward your cell phone to your Follow Me Number. So when someone calls your American or Canadian cell phone it will ring through to your My UK SIM Card. You can even just give your Follow Me Number to family and friends and have them call it (instead of your American or Canadian cell phone number). Your Follow Me Number can't receive texts but you can simply take out My UK SIM Card from your phone and put your American or Canadian SIM Card into your phone to retrieve your texts, and then put My UK SIM Card back into your phone.
  • Your American or Canadian cell phone provider will charge you a fee to forward your cell phone to another American or Canadian number. You'll need to contact them to find out what it costs.
  • My UK SIM Card charges the following for a Follow Me Number: $25 for 100 minutes, $60 for 250 minutes or $200 for 1,000 minutes. If you want to use a Follow Me Number just email us at info@myuksimcard.com after you've ordered and received your My UK SIM Card.
  • 3. You could take a spare cell phone with you and put your American or Canadian SIM Card into your spare cell phone, and put My UK SIM Card into your main phone. You'll need to check with your American or Canadian cell phone provider what it will cost to use your phone overseas.
  • Your cell phone must be network unlocked to use My UK SIM Card.

  • We use the Three UK mobile network which covers 97% of the UK population: to check coverage in a specific area, enter the address into the Three UK Coverage Checker. When in Europe, the UK SIM card will roam onto different local networks.
  • If you're staying longer than 30 days you can refill on our website (with your USA or Canadian credit card, or Paypal) and get another 30 days of the same inclusions (25GB, unlimited minutes, unlimited texts). Staying even longer? Just keep refilling every 30 days. You can keep refilling every 30 days forever if you want.
  • Unused data, minutes and texts do not rollover from month to month.
  • No. We do not currently support eSIM. Our SIM Card is a physical SIM Card that we send to you and which you insert into your phone.
  • My UK SIM Card is good for 30 days from when you activate it in your phone on arrival in the UK or Europe. If you're staying longer than 30 days you can refill £20 on our website using your American or Canadian credit card and get another 30 days of the same plan inclusions.
  • If you're going to be in Europe (ie not in the UK) for longer than 30 days, you can't use My UK SIM Card in Europe for more than 30 days. In this case just buy a second My UK SIM Card: refill your first SIM Card after 30 days, then start using the second My UK SIM Card after 30 days.
  • We accept returns of My UK SIM Card if, and only if, the SIM Card is in its original unopened packaging. "Unopened packaging" means you haven't opened the postal envelope in which the SIM Card was sent to you. Returns are subject to a re-stocking fee of $5, and any postage paid by you for the original purchase is not refundable. To arrange a return please first contact us at info@myuksimcard.com.
  • We do not accept returns if: (a) you've opened the envelope in which the My UK SIM Card was sent to you, and/or (b) you've popped out the SIM Card from its plastic casing.
  • All orders are shipped to you from our warehouse right here in the USA. We dispatch your order on the next business day (Monday through Friday). For example, order on Tuesday, dispatched Wednesday. Order on Friday, dispatched Monday.
  • If you're in the USA: we offer free standard shipping (5 business days), Priority Shipping (2-4 business days) for $6.99, or Express Shipping (2-3 business days) for $14.99.
  • If you're in Canada: we offer free shipping by UPS which takes seven to fifteen (7-15) business days after dispatch. We don't currently offer any faster shipping to Canada.
  • My UK SIM Card is sold only on our website. We don't sell My UK SIM Card in any retail outlets or airports but we're looking to do this soon and we'll update this FAQ if things change: until then you can only buy My UK SIM Card on our website.
